Diplomatic Mission to Miller Park with Real Live Germans

To wind down my vacation I took a trip to the land of cheese to perform diplomatic services on behalf of all of America. I believe I served my country well.

Back to Back FOTY winner, Hauser and I headed to Milwaukee to meet her friends from Deutschland and show them the most American things we could think of.  I'll let the pictures and captions tell the story.

Here are the Germans. Melanie on the left and Falk on the right. You know I am not one to stereotype, but based on this sample I can only conclude that all Germans are hot.

To get to Miller Park, you walk through the VA hospital parking lot. I bit my tongue and did not go off on a diatribe on how poorly we treat Vets. I'd make a great ambassador.

Of course they had to eat American food hamburgers and hot dogs. Hauser and I in turn sampled food from their native land, a brat covered in kraut.

I bought them a yearbook as a souvenir then began to immerse them in the complex world of baseball. The second picture shows just how intent they were on learning all there was to know.

Here Falk is asking about the the "lead-off". This was one of at least 50 conversations we had about the rules of the game. We covered balls, strikes, outs, fair, foul, walks, runs (which for simplicities sake we referred to as "points"), hit-by-pitch, brawls, Bottom line: Baseball is the most complex sport ever created and Falk and Melanie must have +140 IQs as they were able to grasp the game in a few hours while being taught by me speaking to them in a foreign language.

Hauser got us some FANTASTIC seats. This ballpark ain't to shabby. If you want to see some of the great pictures she took, head over HERE.

I can only imagine how hard it was for a German to choke down and "American" beer.

One of the things they were familiar with was "signs". We wandered to a spot were he could see the catcher and see how signs worked.

The relationships between our two countries might be stronger now than ever before. It is pretty sweet meeting people for only a few days, but knowing they are friends in the truest meaning of the word. All in all I think we did an excellent job of showing them something truly American. If only we had brought our shotguns and driven a pickup to the game…...
